Made two mind-maps thinking about perception and consciousness in general.. Chris Frith & Anil Seth inspired!
(Creating the perception mind map was inspired by the profound insights from Chris Frith’s Making Up the Mind, which delves into how the brain constructs reality through a complex interplay of sensory input and cognitive processes. This concept, combined with a desire to visually represent how our perceptions are not just simple reflections of the world but are shaped by intricate neuroanatomical mechanisms, motivated the design of a mind map that emphasizes the richness and complexity of perceived reality. Then via utilising Anil Seth ‘s papers and general work I could finally intuitively understand- to some extent, haha- the interplay between predictive processing, unconscious inference, and the neural mechanisms of consciousness. Anil Seth definitely made significant strides in understanding how our perceptions are constructed from both conscious and unconscious processes, thanks you!!)
1. Perception is a complex interplay between objective and subjective realities, where the brain synthesizes sensory input into a cohesive experience. This mind map explores how perceived reality cannot be easily categorized or explained by early learning theories. Instead, it emphasizes the intricate neuroanatomical processes that allow us to navigate a world filled with rich, non-binary experiences.
2. Exploring the intersection of Bayesian reasoning and psychoanalytic theory, this mind map delves into how unconscious processes shape our perceptions and beliefs. By integrating Freudian insights with Bayesian models, we can better understand the dynamic interplay between deep-seated drives and new sensory information, ultimately revealing how our brains navigate the complexities of reality.
